Raising Spirit-Filled Disciples Who Shine for Jesus

At Hope City Church, our book of the month for July 2026 is Titus. What lessons can we learn from Titus about living for Jesus? Let’s find out…

When we hear the word disciple, we can picture someone with a Bible in hand, attending every church meeting and knowing all the right answers. But the Bible shows a different picture.

A disciple is someone who follows Jesus, learns from Him, and helps others do the same.

The book of Titus is a short letter written by the Apostle Paul to a young church leader named Titus, who was responsible for strengthening new churches on the island of Crete. These churches faced many challenges. The culture around them didn’t reflect God’s ways, false teaching was spreading, and many believers were still learning what it meant to follow Jesus.

Paul’s answer wasn’t to tell Christians to hide from the world. Instead, he encouraged them to live in a way that clearly reflected Jesus.

Faith That Can Be Seen

One of the biggest messages in Titus is that our faith should be visible. It’s not enough to simply say we believe in God if our lives tell a different story.

Paul writes:

“They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny Him.”

Titus 1:16 (NIV)

That verse can sound challenging, but it also invites us to ask an important question:

Does my everyday life point people towards Jesus?

The Gospel isn’t only shared through sermons, music or social media posts – although they are effective methods. Sometimes it’s seen in our patience with difficult people, our honesty at school and work, our kindness to neighbours, or our willingness to forgive. People often notice our actions long before they listen to our words.

Every Generation Has a Part to Play

One of the beautiful things about the book of Titus, is that discipleship isn’t reserved for pastors or leaders. It’s for all of us who follow Jesus.

In Titus 2, Paul speaks to older men, older women, younger women, younger men and leaders. This shows that every generation has something valuable to contribute, and you can contribute in your generation too.

Those who have been Christians for many years can encourage those who are just beginning their journey. Younger believers bring fresh passion, boldness and expectancy. Together, the church becomes a family where everyone is growing and helping someone else to grow.

Discipleship isn’t about being perfect. If it was, none of us could be a true disciple! It’s about following Christ and presenting Him to others.

Reflection

The book of Titus reminds us that the Gospel transforms both our hearts and our actions. As the Holy Spirit works within us, we become disciples who reflect Jesus in everyday life and encourage others to follow Him too. Whether you’ve followed Christ for many years or you’re just beginning your journey, God can use your life to bring hope, encouragement and the message of salvation to those around you.
