Father’s Day can bring a mix of emotions. For some it’s a celebration, yet for others it’s a reminder of loss, absence or unanswered questions. What if we could sit down with our Heavenly Father and ask Him a few questions?
While we can’t interview God directly, His Word reveals His heart toward us this Father’s Day.
God, what do You want me to know about how You feel about me?
“I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.”
— Jeremiah 31:3 (NIV)
“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!”
— 1 John 3:1 (NIV)
God, what do You do when I feel lost, broken, or far from You?
“Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine… and go after the lost sheep until he finds it?”
— Luke 15:4 (NIV)
“The Lord is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
— Psalm 34:18 (NIV)
God, what do You want from me?
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”
— Matthew 22:37 (NIV)
“What does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
— Micah 6:8 (NIV)
God, will You stay with me when life gets difficult?
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.”
— Isaiah 43:2 (NIV)
“Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”
— Hebrews 13:5 (NIV)
God, what is Your greatest desire for Your children?
“I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
— John 10:10 (NIV)
“Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind.”
— Ecclesiastes 12:13 (NIV)
God, what would You like to say to me today?
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
— Matthew 11:28 (NIV)
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.”
— Isaiah 43:1 (NIV)
“As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him.”
— Psalm 103:13 (NIV)
Whether Father’s Day fills you with gratitude, grief, joy, or longing, God’s invitation remains the same. He knows your story, sees your heart and calls you His own. His love is not based on your performance, your past or your circumstances. It is constant, faithful and available to you today.
Father’s Day Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for Your everlasting love and unfailing kindness. Thank You that You know us by name, welcome us as Your children and never leave us to walk through life alone.
Today, we thank You for the fathers and father figures who have loved, guided, encouraged and supported us. Bless them with strength, wisdom, peace and joy.
We also pray for those who find Father’s Day difficult. We pray for those who are grieving, missing their fathers, carrying wounds from broken relationships or longing for a father’s presence. Draw close to them and remind them that You are near to the broken-hearted.
Help us all to experience You as our loving Father: the One who seeks us when we’re lost, comforts us when we’re weary, and remains faithful through every season.
May we rest in the truth that we are deeply loved, fully known and forever held in Your care.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
